Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ director, J.J. Abrams, will be branching out into the games sphere with Bad Robot Games. The information about this move was disclosed on June 7th, 2018.

That’s right, Abrams’ Bad Robot production will have a gaming division. The new branch will be tied to a strategic relationship with Chinese giant Tencent Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. is also reported to have a minor investment in the new project.

The above-mentioned comes directly from publication site hollywoodreporter.com, which states that Bad Robot Games will team up with other (smaller and major) developers to create “large-scale” games for PC, consoles, and mobile devices.

In addition to the above, Bad Robot Games is reported to use “in-house” visual artists, writers and other vital positions to create new projects.

If you don’t know, Bad Robot (not Bad Robot Games) dabbled in the world of video games in the past, but the new branch will focus more on said medium. Moreover, it will be led by Dave Baronoff, with Tim Keenan as creative director.

Lastly, no projects have been announced just yet, but Abrams did have this to say:

“I’m a massive games fan, and increasingly envious of the amazing tools developers get to work with, and the worlds they get to play in. Now we are doubling down on our commitment to the space with a unique co-development approach to game making that allows us to focus on what we do best, and hopefully be a meaningful multiplier to our developer partners. Dave’s creativity, deep passion and skillful leadership will be incredibly valuable as we harness our partner Tencent’s expertise, experience and reach to bring our games to audiences around the world.”

The true questions behind all of this are, will this company last as long as Boss Key Productions? Will there be extreme lens flare in each game? And most importantly, will this company jump on tired trends or will they innovate the industry as a whole?
