WWE 2K21 Officially Cancelled

It was long-rumored that 2K Games’ WWE 2K21 had been cancelled, due in part to the coronavirus disrupting their annual development cycle, as well as the elephant in the room being how badly WWE 2K20 was received.

Eurogamer is reporting that during the WWE financial call, interim chief financial officer Frank Riddick confirmed what all the rumors had reported on previously: WWE 2K21 was cancelled.

Riddick simply stated…

“There’s not going to be a launch of the game this year.”

Previous rumors had indicated that even though WWE 2K21 had been cancelled, 2K Games and WWE were in collaboration working on a new game due out later this year.

No details on exactly what that game will be has surfaced, but given the short turnaround cycle of development and not being able to secure motion-capture performances from actual professional wrestlers has led many to believe that it will be a poorly made mobile game.

In some ways the WWE confirmed some of these rumors by indicating that the future of the games based on the brand would be discussed on Monday, April 27th.

WWE 2K20 had its development handed off to Visual Concepts as Yukes departed from 2K Games to work on their own wrestling title. Many speculate that Yukes might be working on an AEW game.

So long as it’s not filled to the brim with bugs, glitches, and microtransactions, it’s likely going to end up better than WWE 2K20. And for a little reference, here are some of the glitches that gamers encountered while playing last year’s outing, courtesy of Dan Allen Gaming.
