Sony Won’t Sell Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered In Russia, Says Reports

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered (the campaign) is now available for PS4. The PC version will launch alongside the Xbox One edition on April 30th, 2020. However, Russians will not have the ability to buy the game on PS4 due to the inclusion of the “No Russian” mission, according to reports.

Website gamesindustry.biz reports that Russian PS4 owners “will not be able to download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.” The site goes on to say that Sony refused to sell the game, which is currently a digital-only purchase, through the PlayStation Store in said region.

If you don’t trust the publication site and its reporting, it looks like there’s only truth to be found in the above information. I say this because the Call of Duty Russia Twitter account had this to say about the situation:

If you can’t read the tweet or see it, the translated version sits below:

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is a completely fictional 2009 campaign, recreated in HD quality. SIE decided not to sell the game in the Russian PS Store. We look forward to the release of the game in digital form for the PC on Battle.net and on Xbox consoles.”

Multiple websites are saying that Sony isn’t selling the game in said country due to the mission “No Russian.” Nevertheless, you can be the judge and compare the remastered to the original version by checking out the latter right here thanks to YouTuber Fortunate:

Lastly, website gamesindustry.biz posted a statement from Activision that reveals Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will launch in Russia on PC via Battle.net and Xbox One.

In other words, this is the second time that Sony has declined to sell a Call of Duty game in Russia with the first being last year’s Modern Warfare reboot.
