Whether you happen to be a sane gamer or one that revels in the same stuff that Sonichu happens to indulge in, it looks like Sega is carrying on the Sonic legacy by bringing folks news every month through the “Sonic 2020 Project.” And it seems as if the 30th anniversary in 2021 will bring a new mainline game.
So, it looks like furries and those that like visiting Deviantart will have something to look forward to in that Sega is planning on giving fans a special reveal when Sonic’s 30th anniversary rolls around next year in 2021.
Catching wind from wccftech.com, we learn that Sega has updated its main website showing off new stuff related to Sonic the Hedgehog. Most of the stuff featured on sonic.sega.jp consists of wallpapers and the like, but there is an announcement for an announcement, though.
We learn that the announcement for future announcements will see Sega dropping Sonic news every month on the 20th to keep fans abreast. So I’m assuming Sega will use this “Sonic 2020 Project” to unveil info on the upcoming movie that stirred up controversy as well as future games.
Oh, I almost forget. I guess there is something worth noting in that Sega plans on hosting multiple Sonic-related events throughout 2020 leading up to the 30th anniversary.
If you are wondering what’s so special about 2021, Sonic Team’s head Takashi Iizuka told Game Informer (archive.md) back in 2019 that next year will bring the release of the next mainline game:
“2017 was a big year for Sonic. The next big year for Sonic is 2021. That’s the 30-year anniversary for Sonic. We are now preparing.”
Whether Sonic 2021 will stay short and silent or if he’ll be tall and talkative remains to be seen, same goes with meme quality content and glitchy gameplay, but the announcement that Iizuka made during mid-2019 that the next mainline Sonic title is already in development means more Sonic games to flood the market.
