Nvidia Shield TV Gains 4K HDR In-Home Cloud Streaming

During this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Haung took to the stage to talk about all the different innovations that their company is working on for the near future. One of their latest innovations is the upgraded Shield TV with GameStream technology.

Nvidia sent out word that the GameStream allows gamers to untether their Shield TV experience and bring it into another room, hook it up to another TV and enjoy 60fps gaming in ultra-HD 4K resolutions using Nvidia’s streaming technology.

The GameStream device – pictured above – works similar to Steam’s Link, enabling gamers to bring their library with them into a whole other room without having to lug the main PC around or drag the TV from one room to the next.

As they explain in the press release…

“We’re shipping the new SHIELD with a remote and game controller so you can get the complete entertainment package out of the box. It’s the world’s most advanced media streamer with 4K HDR media playback and AI for the home.”

However, if you’re not impressed with in-home game streaming, there’s no worries… Nvidia still caters to the dedicated at-home gamer with the latest in Nvidia Shield TV technology.

The company announced that the latest iteration of the device carries the world-renown Pascal branded mobile chips, enabling for high-definition gaming from the Android-based device.

Additionally, if you don’t have time to wait for your game library to download, you can also make use of Nvidia’s new GeForce Now cloud streaming for in-home use, allowing for gamers to load up games in what they claim will be 30 seconds or less. Patches, updates, hot-fixes and more are all handled via the cloud services.

Within the coming months, gamers will also be able to connect their Uplay accounts to their GeForce Now Nvidia Shield service to instantly access games like Watch Dogs 2, The Division, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and For Honor. You won’t have to wait for them to download and install.

These new features enable the Nvidia Shield TV to ultimately grow its services to include Android games, Ubisoft titles and your Steam library. For more information feel free to visit the official website.
