Epic Games announced that cross-play support is coming soon for Xbox One and PC. The news was made available over on the official Epic Games website. The team currently working on Fortnite also managed to praise Microsoft and throw some secret shade at Sony like a rude dinner guest tossing a spoonful of burnt mashed potatoes from under the table onto the Swiss suede shoes of a rodomontading braggart.
Anyway, the post states…
”Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has long been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles. We’ve been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and will bring this functionality to Fortnite players on Xbox right along with other platforms.”
Microsoft has made it amply clear that given that they’re losing this eighth generation of gaming like Ohio is losing in the race for better education, they’re willing to do whatever it takes to get back into the good graces of gamers, even if it means selling a bit of online real estate from their closed garden in order to allow for cross-platform compatibility.
Even Nintendo has been willing to allow for cross-platform play with games like Minecraft in order to bolster the Nintendo Switch’s install base. It was Sony, the current market leader, who has consistently avoided giving an inch to its competitors by denying any sort of cross-platform play.
Anyway, Epic Games is ignoring Sony for now and focusing on the cross-platform support for gaming devices that aren’t doing the equivalent of dick-blocking their online compatibility efforts.
The post also reveals that over the course of the next few months the Mac, iOS and Android devices will also be able to participate in cross-platform play as well.
This feature popped up very briefly between PC, PS4 and Xbox One gamers during an early access patch, but due to Sony’s dick-slapping measures that were in place, Epic had to remove the cross-play support. Well, now it’s back and everyone but PS4 gamers will be able to participate.
