Tencent Games and PUBG Corporation announced that the mobile download for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently available both for iOS users and Android owners.
You can download the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds from the iTunes App Store or get the APK from the Google Play store.
The availability of the game is limited to certain regions, with the Canadian version being live right now. According to Chen Jerry, the corporate VP of Tencent and president of Lightspeed & Quantum Studios Group, they’re still working with PUBG Corporation to adapt the game to mobile devices in other international markets, stating in the press release…
“We are very excited to launch PUBG Mobile on iOS and Android internationally,” “We are working hard to create an authentic PUBG mobile experience that players new and old will love. A lot of went into controls and optimization to give players a smooth and intuitive experience.”
Various clones of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds have also made their way onto iOS and Android devices, including the popular Terminator 2 Battle Royale game and the other very popular Rules of Survival, which launched late in 2017 last year.
Tencent has been working overtime to get up the official PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds mobile title so that they can cash in on the market as quickly as possible. The game exploded in China last year when PUBG Corporation released the PC version into Early Access. They ended up racking up nearly 40 million players and making boatloads of cash off the game even before it graduated Early Access.
At this point, Tencent is now trying to compete with Epic’s Fortnite, which is also trying to edge in on and control the Battle Royale market since launching last summer. Some think the Battle Royale bubble has already passed, others feel the fad can still be tapped. We’ll see how things go as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds continues to roll out on mobile devices across the broad international marketplace.
