The worlds largest on-line service provider, Amazon, has upgraded its Fire HD 8 tablet. Amazon has incorporated a new feature: always-on, hands-free Alexa. Yes, even when the handset is not plugged in or unlocked, users can still communicate with Alexa.
According to PCWorld this latest model will also include the new Show Mode, this feature will now enable the Fire HD 8 to perform as an Echo device as well. Echo works as a smart speaker with Alexa, If you want to know the weather ask your Fire HD 8; need an update on the current news? Or to play your favorite music? Now you can just ask Alexa on your tablet.
Other new changes includes the front facing camera, instead of having the VGA, now it sports a 2 megapixel front camera, which now allows for video calls in 720p. But a compensation was made for a better front camera, users will now receive 10 hours of battery life instead of 12. Engadget reports that another amenity added to the Fire HD 8 besides using the built-in 16GB or 32GB of storage, is that users can now install apps to microSD cards.
The specifications are almost the same. except for Alexa, the front face camera, and the adjustment on the battery, its still the same in size, a 8-inch tablet, with resolutions of 1280×800 resolution display, 1.3GHz Quad-core processor, and 1.5 RAM. The colors offered are still the same as well, Black, Blue, Red and Yellow. The Fire HD 8 tablet with 16GB of storage will retail starting price of $80.00 (with ads), and $95 (without ads). The 32GB of storage will retail for $110 (with ads) and $125 (without ads.)
It seems Amazon also updated its Fire HD 8 Kids tablet Edition as well. According to PCWorld, the updated version will included one year of free Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, a silicone case, with a 2-year worry-free guarantee, and a list of kid-friendly Audible books will be coming to FreeTime Unlimited soon. The colors available for the Kids Edition are – Blue, Pink, and Yellow, and the service will also be available in Spanish. The starting retail cost will be $130 for 32GB of storage, or a two-pack for $195.00
