Stadia Reportedly Getting Destiny 2, Cross-platform Play And Saves

Google is set to host a Stadia press conference but, heading into the show, it appears at least one headline has already been leaked. According to multiple sources, Destiny 2 is coming to the games service and, more importantly, introduce cross-platform saves.

Cross-platform playing and saving are becoming more common in the games industry, with games like Rocket League and Fortnite already allowing people to play with friends and strangers on other platforms. Hecky, you can earn Xbox Live Achievements while playing Minecraft on the Switch.

According to a recent tweet that was apparently datamined from the game, Destiny 2 is gearing up to introduce a “cross save” feature.

That’s an interesting tidbit in its own right, but what’s really intriguing is what this little leak has led to since. Kotaku has reached out to multiple sources and reportedly confirmed quite a few additional details. These are unnamed sources so, as always, take everything with a grain of salt until after the Stadia presentation tomorrow.

According to those sources, Destiny 2 is coming to the Google Stadia streaming service and will introduce the ability to save and play across platforms including the Xbox One and PC. Nobody could confirm Sony was in on the deal yet, but that’s par for the course when it comes to the PlayStation camp and letting folks play their multiplatform games elsewhere. So, in other words, if you’ve been playing D2 on Xbox One and want to play it on your laptop while on vacation, it sounds like the game will allow you to do that moving forward.

Bungie has a livestream scheduled for 1 p.m. ET tomorrow, so we might get some fresh details then. Before that, though, Google is holding a Stadia press conference at 12 p.m. ET, where the initial details may very well be revealed.

Even if you’re rolling your eyes at Destiny 2, this could have big implications for gaming in general moving forward. If nothing else, it’s certainly making Stadia look more interesting than at first blush.
