Grounded Will Support Cross-Play, Will Feature Music Inspired By The 80s

Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded is yet another multiplayer survival game. Most people are tired of these kind of games but Obsidian is trying to change things up a little bit by focusing the gameplay around a Honey I Shrunk The Kids concept, and the game will feature music themed around that era, along with supporting cross-play.

All the new information comes from the new 14 minute gameplay video uploaded on the YouTube channel MrRedRivers from a Q&A panel that took place at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts over the weekend. Obsidian talked a little bit about the game’s progression, the combat, and the multiplayer.

You can check out the video below.

Most of what they talk about is all the standard-fare stuff. However, the only noteworthy things they talk about is that they took inspiration from Metroidvania titles and that’s how you’ll progress through the game when playing through the story mode, unlocking new abilities, crafting options, and areas to explore.

This doesn’t help the game in any way when it comes to its aesthetics given that it still looks passe and the color scheme is terribly boring.

A large portion of what makes the game look uninteresting is the fact that despite playing as little kids in a background with a bunch of giant bugs the color palette is drab and the game world isn’t all that inviting.

However, they do mention that the game will have a soundtrack with music inspired from the era when Honey I Shrunk The Kids released. I tend to doubt that it will be a synthwave soundtrack but we’ll see when more info drops for the game.

One of the only partially exciting bits of info they revealed is that the game will feature cross-play support between home consoles and PC when it does release. This may help with the game’s lifespan but if the core gameplay loops are lame as crap then it won’t matter anyway.
