SXSW Cancelled Due To Coronavirus

The South by Southwest festival has been cancelled due to the coronavirus. Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok all pulled out of the event that was originally set to take place in Austin, Texas between March 13th and March 22nd, 2020.

According to CNBC they’re reporting that the mayor of Austin declared the coronavirus a “local disaster” and in response, the organizers of SXSW decided it was safest to cancel the event, especially since 26% of the attendees last year came from abroad.

Over on the official SXSW website, they explained on March 6th, 2020…

“The City of Austin has cancelled the March dates for SXSW and SXSW EDU. SXSW will faithfully follow the City’s directions.

“We are devastated to share this news with you. ‘The show must go on’ is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation.”

As noted by CNBC, other events have also been cancelled due to the coronavirus, including Google I/O, the Geneva International Motor Show, and Facebook’s F8 conference to name but a few.

The ridiculous part about it is that after the media initially told everyone not to worry, and most authorities failed to initiate a quarantine, a bunch of people ended up getting sick and now various municipalities are declaring states of emergency.

It’s a little too late now, though. Corona-chan is out of the bag and asymptomatically making her way through air borne contagion via close contact, as pointed out by Live Science.

Quarantine measures should have been in place once news of the virus was made public, but instead there were reports downplaying coronavirus by labeling anyone talking about it seriously as being “racist”. At this point, since people refused to hold mainstream media accountable they’re basically getting what they deserve.
