Sony and Sucker Punch Productions have gone up with a new State of Play episode for Ghost of Tsushima, which shows off the upcoming title’s gameplay and combat system. The digital show in question also offers gamers and fans alike a deeper look into other features in the forthcoming open-world samurai/ninja game.
If you want to see gameplay footage of Ghost of Tsushima, you’re in luck. Back on May 12th, 2020, the official PlayStation blog made mention that on May 14th at 1:00 P.M. PT / 4:00 P.M. ET folks would be able to see 18 minutes of the game in question:
“The episode will be focused entirely on Ghost of Tsushima, coming to PS4 July 17. You’ll get an extended look at new gameplay footage, including exploration, combat and more. The current cut is clocking in around 18 minutes, give or take.
And just to be clear — there won’t be any PS5 news or updates in this episode, just a big, beautiful look at Sucker Punch’s PS4 open-world epic.”
Now that the time has come, you can watch the new Ghost of Tsushima gameplay footage right here:
Firstly, the above video covers exploration. In Ghost of Tsushima, you can toggle a guide option that will use the wind to point you in a specific location to investigate villages, caves, docks, or other places. From here, you can run, jump, or call your horse to explore any point on the island of Tsushima — with or without the wind’s help.
On the topic of traveling, there will be an option to fast travel to a place that you have already visited/discovered.
Furthermore, wild animals can attack random NPCs, or they can help guide you around the open world to find secrets or points of interest.
The video also shows that the Mongols can own territory. However, you can free these areas by driving the invading empire out of said place.
In addition to the above, you can use your bow and arrow or other forms of combat to clear an area. For instance, you can fight enemies as a samurai or as a ninja.
As the samurai, you can perform instant kills with your blade upon unleashing one or two precise strikes. And if you are good enough, you can cut arrows out of the air.
As for the Ninja or ghost, you will rely on dishonor and fear instead of confronting enemies head-on. The ghost can use stuff like firecrackers, smoke, and other tricks and traps to deconstruct any opposing force. This means silence, fear, and confusion are your best tools.
The video also touches on how you can customize Jin Sakai (the protagonist). However, the armor and clothing can affect your playstyle so that you can match whatever it is that you are doing with your attire to get the best results in a head-to-head duel or a battle without honor.
Lastly, the game in question will run folks 50 GB to download and will sport blood and gore, partial nudity, and intense violence. The game set in the late 13th century will release this year for PS4 on July 17th.
