The new power Rangers: legacy Wars from nWay Incorporated, SCG and Lions Gate Entertainment has managed to find its way into the top 5 highest grossing apps for the week, shortly after launching onto the iTunes App Store and on the Google Play service.

If you check App Annie you’ll see that ahead of top-name services like Instagram, Google Maps, YouTube and even the Facebook Messenger, there’s Power Rangers: Legacy Wars.

Not a bad placement for a fighting game.

I’m sure the release alongside the major motion picture has helped a ton.

The game has been shooting up in the charts thanks to the fact that it features a cross-generational collection of Power Rangers from the first season all the way up to the last. Various Power Rangers from the different eras are featured in the game, allowing players to mix and match their team and duke it out while battling against friends and foes alike.

As a mobile game it actually doesn’t look that bad, and according to Pocket Gamer it doesn’t play that bad either. They do note that the microtransactions can get a bit weighty when it comes to unlocking new items, characters and costumes, but the quality of the game’s design and the fighting mechanics supposedly make up for it.

Then again, it is free-to-play.

It would have been pretty cool to see a game like this on something like the Nintendo Switch, giving gamers an opportunity to play a worthwhile console title with the option to game on the go – that’s the sort of thing that could really help boost the appeal of the Switch. Even still, the game is available on iOS and Android devices. Apparently a lot of long-time fans and newcomers alike have taken a real liking to the game, so we’ll see if they can maintain the top spot on revenue charts to keep pace with the momentum of the Power Rangers movie.
