If you didn’t get to see the Stadia Connect event, here’s what you missed: The company’s keynote offered insight on the Stadia Founder’s Edition, Chromecast Ultra, three months of Stadia Pro, games coming to the service, a release window, and one three-month Buddy Pass.
If you are like me and missed out on the Stadia Connect event but tuned in to the self-promoting post of Google employee GraceFromGoogle on r/Stadia, then you can catch highlights right here as well as Google blunders.
Stadia Base Edition
Stadia Base, as its name implies, will not have access to all Stadia Pro features. This includes the following:
- No 4K HDR
- No 5.1 surround sound
- No “free content” or discounts
Stadia Base users will be able to play content in 1080p with 60fps and stereo sound.
Stadia Pro Edition
Secondly, there is another part to this thing known as Stadia. The monthly subscription called “Stadia Pro” reportedly lets you experience the best of what Stadia has to offer. Every month Stadia Pro demands that you pay $9.99 in exchange for the ability to play in “4k HDR at 60fps” with 5.1 surround sound.
As an additive to the above, this subscription will include “free games” that will be “released regularly,” starting with Destiny 2. Stadia Pro users will also be eligible to participate in select Stadia Store discounts.
Stadia Founders Edition
Thirdly, the post relays that at launch Stadia will have a Founders Edition Pack that will run you $129 — more info is on store.google.com. Also, here’s what the Stadia Founders Edition offers:
- Night Blue Stadia Controller (Limited Edition )
- Chromecast Ultra which allows for “4k 60fps” Streaming
- Three Months of Stadia Pro and three Months of Stadia Pro Buddy Pass
- Destiny 2
- Exclusive Stadia Name and Founders Badge
Internet speed requirements
The self-promotion post on the r/Stadia sub-reddit claims that Stadia will work “regardless of speed.” However, the recommended minimum is 10Mbps. Here’s the following info on speed, sound, and resolution:
- 10Mbps is the recommended minimum and will get you 720p 60fps with stereo audio
- 20Mbps is the threshold for 1080p and will get you HDR Video, 60fps, and 5.1 surround sound
- 30Mbps+ is to be the best for Stadia, which offers 4k HDR 60FPS with 5.1 surround sound
