Rare Studios Embraces Diversity And Wants To Improve Hiring Practices

In a recent partnership article, MCV/DEVELOP featured Veronica Heath — Talent Ambassador at Rare Studios — and quoted her saying: “At Rare, having a diverse team is incredibly important to us.” However, the studio associated with Microsoft will appear at the publication’s Women in Games Awards 2020 event as a headline sponsor come November 25th.

Moreover, website mcvuk.com notes that nominees aren’t out in the wild just yet, which means the forthcoming games event dubbed “Women in Games Awards 2020” is gearing up to put on a show to illustrate which companies are the most “diverse” and “forward-thinking” in current year.

Despite the upcoming event being months away, the publication site is looking at every possible way to shine light on those who will be attending the 2020 games event and has Rare Studios’ Heath to outline the “importance of diversity.”

According to Heath, she believes that Rare Studios has a role to play to continue to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of women in games, as well as recognize how the industry as a whole can “evolve.”

Heath also notes that Rare Studios has the ability to create more “respectful environments” for its employees, where all team members can “thrive and have successful careers” since they can bring their “unique perspectives” into the games they create.

Anyway, below you can read what Rare Studios and Heath are planning to do while prepping for the upcoming award show:

“Rare are delighted to return as Headline Sponsor for the MCV/DEVELOP Women in Games Awards this year. We believe we have a role to play to continue to acknowledge and celebrate the fantastic achievements of women in games, as well as recognise how we can continue to evolve as an industry. We look forward to seeing the nominees and award those who have excelled in their fields of expertise and contributed to the culture of their teams.

Being inclusive is on every single person that works in our wonderful industry, to create more respectful environments for our teams, where all team members can thrive and have successful careers in which they can bring their unique perspectives into the games we create.

At Rare, having a diverse team is incredibly important to us. We continually strive to improve in areas of hiring, as well as how we support and represent the diversity in our studio. Even since last year, we have made strides in building a women’s network across Xbox Game Studios in the UK, led by women in our studio leadership teams. We have expanded our programs of emotional wellbeing, mental health support as well as extensive family friendly benefits and we are committed to do more.”

Lastly, Microsoft and Dlala Studios, with the assistance of Rare Studios, will release Battletoads across PC and Xbox One on August 20th, 2020.
