PS5, PS5 Digital Edition or Something Else for Gaming in 2021

With having two different models of PlayStation 5 available to choose from, it might be difficult to decide between the two and identify which one is right for you. Should you choose the PS5 with 4K Blu-ray drive, or should you go for the cheapest option to save some money and buy the PS5 Digital Edition, or something else?

You might ask, when trying to choose between the PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition, is there a wrong answer? This all depends on what you are specifically looking for. Although these models look the same, they offer a totally different experience. You will notice that there are a couple of distinct differences between the two that will affect your decision.

Due to very high demand, both consoles are extremely difficult to find. The Digital Edition seems to be more exclusive than the expensive standard model as the retailers have received less stock from Sony. Moreover, retailers are less likely to push on promoting the digital version since it is cheaper and due to the lack of disc drive that prevents gamers from buying physical game bundles.

Prices & Specs

The standard PS5 costs around $499.99, whereas the digital edition costs $399.99. Both are available worldwide and released on the 12th of November in selected regions, and on the 19th of November for the rest of the world. As you can notice you can save up to $100 if you opt for the digital version. However, you will be losing from the 4K Blu-ray disc player which is a bonus for home cinema lovers and is offered at a reasonable price. Moreover, those with a disc drive can easily swap, borrow and trade disc-based games with their friends or at exchange stores. Games that have been announced include Hogwarts Legacy, Final Fantasy and God of War.

When it comes to specs, the two models are identical in terms of performance, with the only difference being the Blu-ray disc drive. Other than that, they both use the same custom processor and the same 825GB SSD. There is a minor difference when it comes to the weight and dimension. Both consoles can also play PS4 games, and you are recommended to buy an external HDD to use as additional storage when playing these old titles.

Should you be able to afford it, go for the PS5 Blu-ray disc console. You will be able to enjoy a 4K Blu-ray picture as well as the possibility of saving money in the future when trading disc-based games.

Other Games

It is very hard to take a decision based on the price, especially if you are a passionate gamer with little to no cash in hand. If you are still in the process of making a decision and want to have fun in the meantime, there are other games that you can play for free or for real money, from your computer or phone.

For the ones that only have access to an older computer or phone, casino games are an option. These games can be played both for free and for real money. You will probably find more games for real money, including slots, roulette, and blackjack, while free games are limited.

If you have a good computer, there are plenty of games to download from the Steam Store. Some of the most popular games this year include Resident Evil Village, The Witcher and World of Warcraft Shadowlands.
